We were in store for a quieter day today... the ship docked within walking distance of the UNESCO World heritage listed Old Town....so we set off on foot.
The Old Town was just beautiful... cobbled streets... fabulous ornate doors..and row upon row of old homes and alleyways.
The weather was stormy... and the sound of thunder and then rain on the cobblestones just added to the atmosphere of the day. We were thankful for the umbrellas we bought in Le Havre.
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was constructed in 1894 - 1900 during the reign of Russia...and was a spectacular sight.
We also loved St Marys Cathedral / Dome church / Toomkirik a medieval church built in 1240. The interior was quite different...covered in coats of arms from the 17th century.
Ian and I climbed the 140 spiral steps to the top of the bell tower for a magnificent view.
